We are seeking a Principal Stress Engineer to join the UK R&D facility of this world-leading company and to carry out a full range of structural analyses and investigations; including recommending and performing the most appropriate technical solution, ranging from classical hand calculations to the use of finite element analysis.
As Principal Stress Engineer – Mechanical Analysis you will take a lead role for assigned structural analysis activities, at times providing mentoring/ coaching to direct less experienced team members. You will take responsibility for and will be able to justify decisions related to assigned structural tasks and will manage assigned budgets and provide support for securing new work which will include estimating the manning, costs and identifying risk associated with structural analysis tasks.
You will participate in collaborative ventures within the same skill areas, with colleagues in France, will act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external), suppliers and collaborators for assigned structural analysis matters and will be required to provide effective support to customers for assigned structural analysis, delivering solutions of high quality whilst also meeting the customer's requirements and programme plans.
You will be responsible for preparing various technical documents in support of structural analysis activities and will be expected to keep up to date and develop relevant technical skills, knowledge and capabilities as well as seeking and sharing best practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices.
To succeed as Principal Stress Engineer – Mechanical Analysis you must have a substantial track record of experience (ideally degree qualified with significant post graduate experience.) and will be able to demonstrate a proven record in structural analysis (non-linear static and dynamic, rupture…) on research and development programmes.
You must be able to perform classical stress hand calculations and experience in the use of Finite Element Structural analysis tools as well as capability in de-featuring geometry for analysis is also required.
Knowledge and experience of working to industrial and/or national standards associated with structural analysis is required and you must have proven ability to produce good technical documents covering: structural test requirement; definition of load cases; structural management plans; and structural design records.
Good written and verbal communication skills are essential as you will be expected to present at Design Reviews and also will have to interface with other disciplines to gather and share information. You must also have excellent problem solving skills, good negotiating and influencing skills, the ability to provide technical leadership to others and the ability to network effectively at various levels and to interface with customers.
