We are seeking a Control System Designer/ Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the UK R&D facility of this world-leading company and to develop design specifications under guidance and carry out design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards.
As Control System Designer/ Senior Mechanical Engineer you will implement servo studies, both theoretical and practical to ensure that the actuator being designed will have a performance, which is within specified limits for all known conditions of usage and will construct mathematical models of the actuator for performance assessment and software specification and validate by practical testing before using for sensitivity, optimization and qualification studies.
You will be required to contribute to process improvement within the engineering/project team to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time, asset utilisation, etc., will liaise closely with and develop a detailed appreciation of the work carried out by other disciplines, in particular Mechanical, Software and Electronics Engineering and will carry out engineering support activities in the field for specific products and customers to ensure the operability of products.
You will responsible for specifying tests within a clearly defined area and evaluate and making recommendations based on results, including suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes, will assess implications of data analysis and formulate initial conclusions to more senior engineers to take necessary decisions on actions and will carry out or support investigations into engineering problems or issues (individually or as a member of a team), present basic conclusions and recommendations to senior staff and identify and highlight potential resolutions, trends, improvements and emerging issues.
As Senior Mechanical Engineer you will supply a technical interface with suppliers/customers at a detailed level, ensuring the effective provision of support to customers in assigned areas in line with customer requirements and programme plans, as well as the rapid resolution or escalation of problems and issues. You will also provide technical support to Operational activities to optimise effective processes, resolving standard problems to minimise interruptions to production.
To succeed as Control System Designer/ Senior Mechanical Engineer you will ideally be degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Engineering Council approved and post graduate MSc desirable) and will be experienced in more than one aspect of a single engineering area/domain. Matlab/Simulink experience is essential, as is the ability to understand quality requirements and processes.
You should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of classical control/servo theory and sampled data systems as well as transfer functions, compensation techniques and stability criteria in both the continuous and digital domains. You must be able to successfully specify servo components including position and rate sensors and electric motors and provide execution of complex error and tolerance analyses, co-ordination of manufacture of prototype and development hardware and successful planning and execution of functional and environmental trials.
You will be joining a world leading, global missile systems company, delivering cutting-edge technologies to their multinational customer base. They operate in all of the major world markets and are the only company able to design and produce missiles and missile systems for army, navy and air forces.
With around 10,000 employees based across the UK, France, Italy, Germany and the USA, their growing reputation for innovation and technical excellence owes much to their engineering facilities, rated amongst the most modern in the world.
